| Sunday 22 January 2012 saw
new juniors turn up and a new family signed up for membership. Terry was
unavailable due to work commitments and Brad was broken. Linda and Sharney
excelled in the kitchen, and all went sailing on full bellies. 15-20knots
south easter all sailors welcomed the start. The start did not go so smoothly
as there was a wind change and the windward mark drifted away calling for
a restart. Once re-started by Bill and Clare everything went smoothly until
Des capsized and had to be rendered assistance, and Simon and Brad capsized
on a sandbank and due to the windy conditions both boats retired to the
shore. Handicap results are as follows: Darcy sailing mari c/rigged finished 2nd over the line and blitzed the fleet on handicap, John and Matt on their H18 scored 2nd, Stan on his windy ss 3rd, Ian on his Nacra 4th. Mono results are as follows: Glen on his impulse defeated club legend Arie on handicap. All members enjoyed after-race festivities. Hope to see you all again next week, thanks goes to those that helped out this week. Sunday mornings 10am for Junior training and sailing. Linda |

| Sunday 15 January 2012 Rain, black clouds and a bad forecast 1 H18, 2 H16's, 1 windy ss and 1 mari rigged up. The weather held off and all sailors welcomed the start with a 8-10knot s/easter with the wind swinging a port start was the way to go. Bob in his H16 missed the start and gave the fleet a head start, at the windward mark the H18 sailed by Kershi/Brad led the way, followed by Simon/Brad on the H16, Stan on his windy ss and Darcy on his mari c/r close behind, Bob/Natalie H16 catching fast. With the wind swinging to the N/East and gaining to 12-15 knots sailors enjoyed the warm weather and tight reach, doesn't get much better. Across the line 1st H18 Kershi and Brad, 2nd H16 Simon and legend crew Brad once again leading the 16 fleet home, 3rd Stan on his windy ss, 4th H16 Bob and his international crew Natalie, 5th Darcy on his mari c/r stayed with the fleet. Thanks to midweek rain the lake level was high and weed posted no threat to sailors. Hope to see you all again on the water next week. Linda |

| Sunday 8 January 2012 6 cats and 1 mono braved the weed at Canton Beach, seriously looked as though some one had let the plug out of the lake. Bill and Linda started the boats in a 15 knot noreaster, Simon and Brittney on their hobie 16 crossed line in first place, as usual blitzing the 16 fleet with his gun crew. Stan once again led the 14's home in his windy ss. Darcy on his mari cat rigged just pipped Brad and Kershi on their hobie 18, 5th was James on his Mari followed by Graham on his windy ss. Arie once again took out the mono hull division on his impulse. Handicapp results are as follows Darcy 1st, Simon/Brittney 2nd, Stan 3rd John/Brad 4th, Graham 5th,. Jake was great in the kitchen and thanks go to John and Mitch in the rescue boat, John set a great course. Great day had by all. See you all again next sunday. Linda |

| Sunday 18 December 2011 Fresh back from Tasmania it was great to be back at Canton Beach to see all the club members enjoying themselves. Brad had Terry organising the juniors and teaching sailing techniques. Terry will continue this morning instruction on Jan 8 in the new year. Bill predicted a steady 15 knot Northeaster and sure enough that's what we got making for fantastic racing. Linda & Bill got us started in the tinny. Steve (PT) in usual form was first to the top mark but found the weed a problem even in the middle. As a consequence Simon just beat him across the finish line after the standard olympic course. To rub salt into the wound I (W14ss) managed to beat him on yardstick which does not happen very often. Simon found the conditions exhilarating but a handful. At least with the NE breeze it was consistent, if a bit strong for one-up on a H16. Graham found it hard to get his W14ss to point and was disappointed even after he adjusted his top batten with more camber. Brad & Brendan managed to turn over their mono a number of times allowing Arie to complete the two triangles in front often planing in the good breeze. Next week is Christmas and no sailing as per calendar. Next sail is New Year's day 1st Jan 2012. Stan |

| Sunday 11 December 2011 2 mari cats, 1 paper tiger and a windrush took to the water on Sunday, not sure as to how they finished as a storm came across the lake with lightning. All hastily made it to shore safely and de-rigged. Terry, Tom and Rory (first sail Sunday at age 5) took to the water in a Puffin pacer. Brandon solo on the gwen 12 developed a leak in the boat and was rescued by all juniors. Boat eventually returned to shore half submerged but no major damage. Thanks to Terry again for his time with the juniors, and a big thank you to the members who repaired broken trailers and other equipment. Hope to see every one next week for our Xmas party/BBQ after sailing next Sunday. Everyone invited. Linda Robinson |

| Sunday 6 November 2011 Sunday saw near perfect conditions for having a great time at the club. Michael, Brandon, Chris and half a dozen others set up "Red Roo" and the other monos to have the time of their lives. Tom had his first ever solo sail. The others were learning about the work ethic that goes with getting boats on and off the water. As I left, Michael was still working hard to get the guys to get the boats away. A 10 to 15 knot northeaster made for fantastic sailing. Why would you do anything else? Even Barry and Danny expressed their envy as they dropped in from their Sunday bike ride. No handicap start today so the start saw the three H18s fly across the line with the five 14s. Some sailors jumped the start but were let go by Bill as time was getting on. Steve's Paper Tiger got off to a good start but the weed was bad this week and got around his centerboards to slow his progress. It was good to see Rimmo. He and Darcy (who set the course) were cat rigged in Maricats. Graham is gradually fine tuning his trapeze technique finding it better to stay in and point higher on occasion. The H18 lead changed a number of times making for tight racing. Peter's H18 lapped all the 14s followed by John with Brad and then Darren with Aaron very close behind. I was able to clear out building a 7 minute lead on the other 14s. I have to mention this because it has never happened before and probably never again. But it certainly is encouragng when everything (nearly) goes right especially after my dismal effort at Mannering Park the other week. Stan |

| Sunday 23 October 2011 Five fourteens and Bob (Impulse), Light wind, beaut day. I laid a tight reaching, port course and Bill got them away for a handicap start around 1.40 pm. Brandon (P/T) and Ryan, with new junior crew (Mari cat rig (c/r)) off scratch, six minutes later Troy (P/T), Aaron (Mari c/r) and Graham (Windy S/S) followed by Bob (Who did his own thing). The backmarkers caught Brandon at the leeward mark and he withdrew a lap later. Aaron and Graham swapped places several times until the last 2 reaches saw Graham drop Aaron, catch Ryan and win by about a minute followed by Ryan, Aaron then Troy (my handicapping and the light breeze cruelled him). The breeze freshened after the finish. Extremely low lake level caused problems getting committee boats out through the weed. Darcy Sunday 16 October 2011 Sunday saw a rather moderate southeaster drop away to make for a very pleasant afternoon's sailing for the nine boats in attendance after the usual morning session with the juniors. Simon and son from Toner Direct had his H16 glued by John Kersh and found it a whole lot stiffer. I found my Mylar sail damaged from the capsizes of the previous week at the Mannering park regatta. The temporary fix did last the afternoon but will need a more permanent repair. John and Brad H18 wanted more of a start over Brett and Lachlan but made a good fist of it with only 3 minutes start. Brett and Lachlan have sailed with us before but they usually sail at Speers point in their F18. Steve once again performed well in his paper tiger which he has tuned to perfection matching mainsheet tension to pointing angle. Troy reminded me about the club's facebook page. Darcy set the course, got rescue and start boats in and out and raced - what a power house at 66 or is it 67? Ryan, Thomas and Neil manned the rescue boat. Bill and Lynda manned the start boat which was undergoing its sea trials after the Norah Homes retirement. Ian was unable to use his ripped jib but used his spinnaker to good effect on the reaches and downhill even though the angle did not quite suit him this time. Having hit the buoy he got his tiller and mainsheet tangled when doing his 360 allowing me to get by. Des completed the fleet in his paper tiger. The handicap is continuing to work well with most boats finishing together making for tight racing. The order of boats was continually changing making for an exciting time in the 10 knot southeaster. Stan 43923080 Thursday 6 October 2011 This weekend, Mannering Park ASC is running a 14ft Catamaran Regatta. Click here for NOR. There will be no racing at Toukley. Meanwhile, Jason Dean is selling his Laser - see details on the Club Notices page. Sunday 18 September 2011 Today we were all waiting for the southerley and sure enough it hit smack on 1.30 when we were to start our first point score race of the season. Fortunately we had not ventured onto the water - so no injuries or breakages to report except Bill's stitches and Troy's bee sting. The south wind built to an estimated 30 kts which was even too big for the keenest sailors. We waited it out, but by the time it calmed down, enthusiasm was lost. Steve was keen for another good performance. We made Des welcome after not being with us for quite a while. Bob Lockley also was keen and hopefully he will have more time to join us this season. Graham has been fine-tuning his windy and practising with Dave and co to improve his times. John and Brad were happy to retire to the clubhouse without breakages. Arie was the smartest one having completed his sail earlier. Brandon Becker also had a good time earlier helping the four families of youngsters learn the ropes. Hopefully next week will be kinder to us. Stan Sunday 11 September 2011 Sunday Morning saw 11 juniors being instructed by Ryan & Co in the Vagabond and other club boats. Thanks to Brad,Lynda, & Ben from Bias in Belmont this number is sure to increase as the weather warms up. The small south east breeze came in just in time for us to get the first race of the season got off to a good start. It moved to the east to make a port tack start the way to go. Each boat with its own handicap made for some tight racing, all-be-it in very light conditions - see result times. The lead changed a number of times with the sloop rigs having the advantage on the reaches and cat rigs out-pointing and gaining on the works. Troy was happy with the new fiberglass hulls of his Papertiger to hold off Steve and Ian for most of the race. Steve enjoyed his win over the other 14 footers. Ian showed his usual class and it was great to see him move through the field. Simon with Ryan was back going well to close his 6 minute handicap but is still going to get John to reglue his boat to further stiffen up his H16. John and Brad passed the rest even with their 11 minute handicap. Darcy just pipped Stan on the line after going so well early. Brenton showed he is not always at the front and certainly will be happier when the automatic re-handicapping occurs next week. We might even see Silly Goose. Stan Results below:
